STEP ONE: Introduction (5 minutes)

Begin by reading this:

“Many believe leaders must choose between confidence and humility. Great leaders know better! They tap into the healthy tension between these qualities. They understand that the synergy of unwavering self-belief and genuine openness to growth is the key to resilience and results.”

STEP TWO: Exploring Confidence (15-20 minutes)

Read this, ideally with a slide or handout for reference:

CONFIDENCE – A belief in yourself and your ability to handle life’s challenges. A realistic sense of your capabilities and feeling secure in that knowledge.

Reflective Questions (have questions on the slides or handout)

  1. Describe a time when your unwavering confidence in a belief, decision, or idea led to a great outcome.
  2. What are 1-3 beliefs or principles that you stand firmly behind? How do these guide your life and/or leadership?

STEP THREE: Delving into Humility (15-20 minutes)

Read this, ideally with a slide or handout for reference:

HUMILITY – A belief that you are not superior to others, often characterized by genuine curiosity, gratitude, and a lack of arrogance. An understanding that you always have more to learn.

  1. Describe a concept or idea that you’ve changed your mind about recently. What led to this shift in perspective?

Discuss as a group (have questions on the slides or handout)

  1. How can we embrace both confidence and humility in our daily work?
  2. What benefits will this “healthy tension” bring to our team and organization?
